

Structural Steel Detailer (Intermediate or Senior)
Location: Glenmore Fabricators – Shepard Shop
Employment: Full‑Time, Monday–Friday (40 hours/week)
Compensation: $65,000–$110,000 (commensurate with experience)

Job Purpose
As a Structural Steel Detailer, you will play a key role in producing accurate, code‑compliant structural and miscellaneous steel drawings that support fabrication and erection activities. You will ensure all deliverables meet Glenmore’s standards, client expectations, CISC requirements, and applicable building codes.
We are hiring for either an Intermediate or Senior role depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities (All Levels)

Review and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and supporting documents.

Produce accurate 3D models and detailed shop drawings using Tekla Structures.

Prepare erection drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel.

Ensure compliance with design drawings, CISC standards, and applicable building codes.

Prepare and manage RFIs, IFA/IFC drawing packages, CNC files, and project‑specific reports.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and shop/field teams to resolve design or coordination issues.

Maintain high standards of accuracy, clarity, and quality control across all deliverables.
Role‑Specific Expectations
Intermediate Steel Detailer
Ideal for candidates with 2–5 years of Tekla experience who are ready to grow into more complex project responsibilities.

Execute detailing tasks with guidance from senior team members.

Model and draft structural and miscellaneous steel components with increasing independence.

Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to problem‑solving discussions.

Develop your understanding of Alberta Building Code and industry best practices.

Build toward leading your own detailing packages over time.
Senior Steel Detailer
Ideal for experienced detailers capable of leading major project packages with minimal oversight.

Lead detailing for structural steel packages from modeling through to IFC.

Mentor and support junior and intermediate detailers.

Coordinate directly with engineers, project managers, and shop supervisors.

Provide quality assurance oversight and ensure drawing consistency across the team.

Identify constructability issues and propose practical solutions.

Contribute to workflow improvements, standards development, and team training.
Skills & Qualifications
Required (All Levels)

2–5+ years of structural steel detailing experience using Tekla Structures.

Strong understanding of structural steel and miscellaneous metals.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Proficiency with Bluebeam and MS Office.

Strong communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced project environment.
Preferred
-
Experience with industrial or commercial steel projects in Alberta.

Familiarity with Alberta Building Code and local engineering practices.
